Everybody knows them, but the least people are familiar with their living. Frequently we can only see the fruiting bodies of the parasol mushrooms as well as of the mould fungi. The actual life-form, the mycelium, remains hidden.

Most mushrooms are multicellular (exception: many yeast forms) and obtain their food/energy from organic material which is broken up by microscopically small mycelium threads.
